Why
Sparta?
With a population of 17,000, spread over
39 square miles, Sparta Township is located only 50
miles from New York City. According to a demographics
study by Caci, Inc., Sparta's median household income
ranks at the top 3 percentile in the nation. Those are
the bare facts, easily stated. The beauty of the lakes
and hills is obvious, more elusive is the spirit of
Sparta. Residents, both old-times and recent arrivals,
are fiercely proud of their hometown. Why? Perhaps it's
because Sparta offers such a wide variety of things
- there is something here for everyone! We do have pride
in our school system, in our parks and playing fields,
in our cultural involvement and in our people.

Community
activities abound, providing family fun and entertainment.
Sparta Day features booths, games, craft displays,
food and music. On warm summer evenings, you will
enjoy free open-air concert on the library lawn.
The Fourth of July celebration is an old-fashioned
treat from the morning parade to the evening fireworks
display.

For those residents who have a creative spirit, they
will find many outlets. The Cornerstone Playhouse was
formed by a group of amateur actors who enjoy performing
a variety of shows for both adults and children.
Sussex
County Community College has its own resident theater
group, The Pegasus Players, which not only performs,
but also offers classes in the performing arts. Activities
of the Warren-Sussex Arts Foundation is also responsible
for all the live entertainment at the Farm and Horse
Show. Relying on donations from local businesses, it's
the Sparta Cultural Affairs committee, which arranges
the open-air concerts.
To serve diverse religious denominations, Sparta has
ten churches. For the residents who enjoy helping others,
there are 31 service clubs in Sparta. They range from
scouting to senior citizen groups.
